Position Overview

Registered Nurse, RN – Operating Room at Tufts Medical Center.

Provide professional and non‑professional nursing care for patients undergoing a wide range of complex surgical procedures in a fast‑paced academic medical center environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient‑specific care plans in a perioperative setting.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, residents, and other interdisciplinary team members during the day‑to‑day care of surgical patients.
  • Deliver patient education and anticipate cultural and language needs for all individuals and their families.
  • Administer medications and manage sedation, ensuring patient response and safety.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all nursing interventions and patient outcomes.
  • Serve as a patient and family advocate, facilitating communication and ensuring a seamless transition from the operating room to postoperative care.
  • Engage in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, analyzing data and implementing evidence‑based changes to care processes.
  • Delegate nursing responsibilities to staff and coordinate teamwork for efficient, safe patient care.
  • Potentially assume charge nurse functions or supervise other nurses during unit cycles.
  • Maintain technical competency with operating room equipment and patient monitoring systems.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Massachusetts.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification;
    Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Specialty nursing certifications in critical care, anesthesia, or perioperative practice preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged standing, walking, and lifting of patients and equipment.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch as required for patient care.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals, blood borne pathogens, and other occupational risks.
  • Work irregular hours and manage emergency and crisis situations.
Pay Range

$43.01 – $98.89 per hour.
