Description

Reporting to the Clinical Nurse Educator, the Clinical Education & Competency Coordinator is responsible for supporting the development, coordination, and implementation of clinical education, onboarding, and competency programs across the organization. This role ensures that all clinical staff, including nurses and medical assistants, are trained, competent, and practicing in alignment with evidence‑based standards, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.

The Clinical Education & Competency Coordinator serves as an operational and educational resource, supporting onboarding, annual competencies, skills validation, and workflow standardization to promote high‑quality, safe, and efficient patient care.

Primary Responsibilities Clinical Education & Training Support General
  • Support the development and implementation of clinical education programs for nursing and medical assistant staff
  • Assist in onboarding and orientation of new clinical staff, ensuring completion of required training and competencies
  • Coordinate and schedule education sessions, trainings, and competency validations
  • Maintain training materials, tip sheets, and education resources aligned with organizational workflows
  • Provide real‑time support and reinforcement of clinical workflows and best practices
Competency Management & Validation
  • Coordinate annual and ongoing competency assessments for clinical staff
  • Track and monitor completion of required competencies, certifications, and trainings
  • Assist with skills validation, return demonstrations, and documentation of competency completion
  • Maintain competency records in accordance with regulatory and organizational requirements
  • Identify gaps in competency and elevate to the Clinical Nurse Educator for targeted education planning
Onboarding & Staff Development
  • Support structured onboarding programs for new hires, including nurses, medical assistants, and other clinical staff
  • Ensure all onboarding checklists, competencies, and required trainings are completed in a timely manner
  • Provide ongoing support to new staff during orientation and transition to independent practice
  • Assist in development of role‑specific onboarding pathways and training materials
Workflow Standardization & Support
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership to ensure consistent implementation of standardized clinical workflows
  • Assist in developing and maintaining workflow documentation, SOPs, and competency guides
  • Support rollout of new clinical processes, protocols, and Epic workflows through education and training
  • Reinforce team‑based care models and ensure staff are trained to work at top of license
Quality, Compliance & Regulatory Support
  • Ensure all education and competency programs meet regulatory requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, DPH, OSHA)
  • Support audit readiness by maintaining accurate training and competency documentation
  • Participate in mock surveys, audits, and tracers related to clinical competencies and staff readiness
  • Assist in corrective action plans related to competency or training gaps
Data Tracking & Reporting
  • Maintain tracking systems for staff education, competencies, and certifications
  • Generate reports on training completion, compliance rates, and competency status
  • Identify trends and gaps in training and partner with the Clinical Nurse Educator to address them
  • Support data‑driven improvements in clinical education programs
Collaboration & Communication
  • Collaborate with nurse supervisors, coordinators, and leadership to align education with operational needs
  • Serve as a resource for staff regarding training requirements and competency expectations
  • Communicate updates related to education, competencies, and workflow changes
  • Participate in committees and meetings related to clinical education and quality
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support organizational priorities, staff development, and patient safety initiatives

Qualifications & Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or clinical training program strongly preferred
