This position is full-time, 3-13hr nights, 6p-7a, weekend/holiday requirement. Great opportunity for Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Nocturnist to work in a Multi-Disciplinary ICU. This 18-bed intensive state-of-the-art unit provides multi-specialty, patient-centered care, focused on integrated expertise and operational excellence. The unit is the primary assignment for critically ill patients benefit ting from multidisciplinary care, including complex surgical patients (trauma, liver and lung transplant pre- and post-surgery) and other critically ill surgical and medical patients requiring intensive care.

The APP (> Advanced Practice Provider) manages a wide spectrum of patients and coordinates care in collaboration with a multidisciplinary care team. The APP will establish, implement and evaluate the ICU course of treatment and the coordination and communication of the treatment plan. The APP will have a key role in patient and family teaching while promoting competent, compassionate nursing care for patients and families.

The APP will serve as a role model for professional nursing practice and provide direct care to a select patient population in collaboration with the physician.

• Perform and record patient history and physical exams and discuss findings with the physician.
• Utilize advanced nursing knowledge to identify, prevent or solve complex and/or recurring patient care problems.
• Follow and manage patients in collaboration with the MD to enhance continuity of care.
• Perform (oversee/assure completion of) specialized procedures mutually agreed upon with collaborating physician.
• Perform medically delegated aspects of patient care as agreed upon by nursing and medical administrators according to practice guidelines.
• Collaborate with unit staff and physicians to facilitate a comprehensive plan of care and coordinate resources.
• Write orders in accord with current guidelines; maintain practitioner guidelines per state and hospital regulations.
• Provide consultation to nurses and physicians; serve as a resource to staff in area(s) of expertise.
• Serve on appropriate intra- and interdepartmental committees; participate in the development of formal and informal educational programs for the unit-based nursing staff; develop educational programs within area of expertise.
• Collaborate with unit staff, Clinical Educators, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Staff Specialists and other health care professionals to meet staff and patient educational needs.
• Monitor patient outcomes in accordance with defined standards of patient care; collaborate with nurse managers, clinical nurses and medical staff to plan, implement and evaluate changes in practice and health care delivery.
• Identify system-wide factors contributing to undesirable outcomes and facilitate patient movement through the system and efficient use of resources through interdepartmental collaboration.
• Support research efforts to advance knowledge and promote research-based practice; evaluate own practice and program effectiveness; identify nursing and health delivery problems for investigation.
• Evaluate current research findings for clinical applicability to unit practice; assist nursing and medical colleagues in research efforts; conduct own research.
• Maintain professional growth and required credentials; maintain standards and educational requirements; identify learning needs and goals; take leadership roles on committees and task forces.
• Maintain and update clinical knowledge and skills based on current health care practice and research.

Ideal candidate will have:

• Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with 2 years of experience (strongly preferred).
• Experience of 3+ years within a critical care setting as an RN, NP, or PA.
• Excellent critical thinking and clinical judgment skills.
• Proficiency with EPIC medical charting preferred.
