Registered Nurse, Endocrinology, Per Diem

Position Summary

Registered Nurse – Endocrinology, Diabetes & Nutrition Clinic, Boston Medical Center (BMC). Per-Diem shifts. The RN will provide comprehensive nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation. This includes direct patient care, coordination with patients, families, and the health care team, documentation, and adherence to the nursing process and BMC policies.

• Consistently and effectively use the nursing process to deliver timely, safe, and patient‑centered care.
• Conduct systematic assessments, gather pertinent data, and prioritize clinical information.
• Analyze assessment data to develop accurate nursing diagnoses and individualized outcomes.
• Create and document a patient‑specific plan of care, integrating current policies, protocols, and resources.
• Implement interventions, including medication administration, phlebotomy, IV insertion, and other procedures, while delegating appropriately.
• Communicate clearly with patients, families, and the health care team, and document care in a compliant manner.
• Identify and respond to emergency and crisis situations, and document interventions and outcomes.
• Evaluate patient progress, revise plans as needed, and provide follow‑up care through home visits or telephone when appropriate.
• Maintain a clean, safe unit environment, following risk management practices.

• Evaluate quality, cost, and effectiveness of nursing practice; participate in quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Adhere to all practice standards, statutes, regulations, and institutional policies.
• Work independently, resolve conflicts, and maintain professional development records.
• Maintain current knowledge and competencies through ongoing education and mandatory training (e.g., BLS, ACLS).
• Act as a mentor, preceptor, or resource for peers and new staff.
• Make ethical decisions, advocate for patients, and provide non‑judgmental, culturally sensitive care.
• Collaborate with all health care team members, coordinate referrals, and assist with discharge planning.
• Serve as shift charge nurse or provide orientation when requested.

• Education
  :
  Nursing degree (Diploma, ASN, or BSN). BSN preferred; ability to obtain BSN within 4 years.
• Licensure & Certifications
  :
  Licensed RN in Massachusetts, current BLS certification; ACLS or other certifications may be required.
• Knowledge & Skills
  :
  Basic cardiac life support, computer proficiency, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, delegation, effective verbal and written communication. Multilingual skills beyond English are preferred.
• Experience
  : 2–3 years in endocrinology or diabetes care; triage experience preferred; IV infusion experience preferred.
• Physical ability to meet core job responsibilities; ability to manage stress associated with critical patient care and changing organizational demands.
• Active participation in ongoing education and compliance with institutional safety and infection‑control standards.

Hourly compensation range: $38.05 – $79.47.
