Position Summary
Registered Nurse – Menino Post Anesthesia Care Unit/Pre‑Operative Unit, Boston Medical Center
LocationMenino PACU (Outpatient/Inpatient Surgery)
Schedule36 hours, Day/Night, Every 3rd Weekend
Department OverviewThe Menino PACU/Pre‑Operative Unit is a 52‑bay integrated procedural platform that delivers advanced intensive care monitoring and pre‑operative care. It serves as a holding area for procedural patients requiring specialized cardiac and interventional care, and operates as a high‑acuity recovery area for patients directly from the OR/Procedural areas.
Responsibilities- Adhere to Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing rules and regulations.
- Provide nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and their families.
- Participate in clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal patient care outcomes using the department’s model of care.
- Follow established agency policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and standards of practice.
- Effectively delegate appropriate patient care activities and manage stress related to critical patient issues.
- Diploma, ASN, or BSN (BSN preferred).
- Must obtain a BSN within 4 years if not current.
- Licensed as a registered nurse in Massachusetts.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Basic computer proficiency for accessing, entering, and interpreting electronic data.
- Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.
- Multilingual skills beyond English preferred.
- Analytical ability to solve clinical nursing issues and conduct quality improvement projects.
- Physical ability to meet core job responsibilities and manage stress in a critical care setting.
- At least 1 year of nursing experience.
- Critical Care experience required (PACU, ED, ICU).
- Previous or current PACU experience strongly preferred.
Base pay range: $38.05 – $75.33 (estimates based on minimum qualifications). Total compensation includes benefits, contract increases, flexible spending accounts, 403(b) matches, paid time off, and career advancement opportunities.
