Registered Nurse – Menino Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU/Pre‑Operative)

Menino PACU (Outpatient/Inpatient Surgery). 36 hours, evenings, every 3rd weekend.

The Menino Post Anesthesia Care Unit/Pre‑Operative Unit on the new integrated procedural platform consists of 52 bays. All bays provide advanced ICU monitoring and pre‑operative care. The unit serves as a holding area for procedural patients requiring specialized cardiac and interventional care and functions as a high‑acuity recovery area stabilizing patients directly from the OR/Procedural areas after surgery.

The registered nurse adheres to the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing rules and regulations and is primarily responsible for professional performance and direct patient care. The role encompasses nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and their families across the continuum. The nurse is accountable for clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal patient‑care outcomes using the model of care designed by the nursing department and following established agency policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and standards of practice.

• Diploma, ASN, or BSN (BSN preferred). Must obtain BSN within 4 years if not currently held.
• Licensed to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.

• Basic computer proficiency – access, enter, and interpret computerized data.
• Effective interpersonal skills to facilitate communication with health‑care team members, patients, and families.
• Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.
• Multilingual skills (beyond English) preferred.
• Relevant clinical experience and/or specialty certification required for certain practice areas (e.g., peri‑operative, epidemiology, total therapy).
• Analytical ability to solve clinical nursing issues and conduct quality improvement projects.
• Ability to effectively delegate patient‑care activities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Physical ability to meet core job responsibilities.
• Ability to manage stress related to critical patient‑care issues, organizational changes, and personnel issues.

1+ years of nursing experience required. Critical care experience (PACU, ED, ICU) required. Previous or current PACU experience strongly preferred.
