Clinical Research Nurse II

The Clinical Research Nurse II will report directly to the Medical Director of the Cancer Clinical Trials Program and the Administrative Director in Hematology and Medical Oncology. The Clinical Research Nurse II is primarily responsible for performing clinical and patient-facing tasks for patients on study. They will work with providers to identify potentially eligible patients for open clinical trials. They will meet with potential research subjects to review consent forms and discuss trial requirements.

They will see patients during required study visits and, in partnership with the clinical research coordinator, ensure compliance with study requirements. The Clinical Research Nurse is expected to spend the majority of their time in the clinic seeing active study patients. It is expected that the Clinical Research Nurse will follow and evaluate 4-6 patients per day, 4 days a week.

Administrative responsibilities include assisting the principal investigator with clinical trial protocol review and protocol development as appropriate. They will collaborate with quality assurance of clinical trials in developing protocol-specific materials. Research responsibilities include assisting with recruitment and registration of patients to clinical trials. They will coordinate scheduling of patients' laboratory and radiographic assessments, admissions, and clinic visits. They will monitor test results as appropriate and coordinate with clinical research coordinators.

They will collaborate with staff within respective disease groups and complete clinical research trials. Clinical responsibilities include coordinating study enrollment, protocol treatment, and completion of study requirements for patients participating in clinical trials. They will collaborate with Care Coordination for all patient care referrals. They will provide protocol education to patients and families, adapting interactions based on the specific needs of the patient.

They will complete orders for required specimens and monitor test results as appropriate. They will document in charts and communicate observations and findings to protocol investigators and attending physicians. They will serve as a resource to the health care team and monitor the environment of care with attention to patient safety. They will maintain clinical practice that is evidence-based and consistent with nursing policies and procedures.

They will foster an environment that is sensitive to the diverse needs of the patient population. Professional development responsibilities include identifying areas for professional growth. They will formulate professional goals and pursue active membership in local and national professional organizations. They will participate in committees as necessary and meet all annual evaluation requirements and competencies within the established time period.

They will collaborate in preparing professional reports and presentations for colleagues and the public.
