Job Title:Nursing Lab Simulation Instructor

Unit: Part-time non-unit

Department: Nursing

Reports to:Dean of Nursing

Schedule:Onsite (part-time)

Scope of work/position summary:

Nursing simulation lab instructors teach, supervises, and evaluates nursing students in simulated clinical environments, bridging theory and practice while managing equipment and facilitating critical thinking.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Nursing simulation lab instructors guide students through hands-on practice in skills and simulation labs, covering procedures from basic tasks like catheter insertion to complex patient scenarios such as deteriorating post-surgical conditions. They provide real-time feedback and structured debriefing to enhance clinical reasoning and decision-making skills, often using frameworks like PEARLS to facilitate reflective learning
  • Scenario Development:
    Instructors design and implement realistic simulation scenarios that align with curriculum objectives. This includes programming high-fidelity manikins, coordinating virtual reality or AI-assisted simulations, and ensuring scenarios reflect real-world clinical challenges
  • Assessment and Debriefing:
    They evaluate student performance during simulations, providing constructive feedback and guiding post-scenario discussions. Effective debriefing helps students understand what occurred, why, and how to improve their clinical judgment
  • Equipment and Lab Management:
    Instructors maintain simulation equipment, manage consumables, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure the lab environment is safe and functional. This includes calibration of manikins, inventory management, and preparation of supplies for scheduled sessions
  • Administrative Duties:
    They track student competencies, maintain records in learning management systems, schedule lab sessions, and coordinate with faculty and clinical sites to ensure students meet prerequisites for clinical rotations
  • Collaboration and Professional Development:
    Instructors work with nursing faculty and inter-professional teams to update simulation activities, support faculty training, and contribute to research or program evaluation. They also stay current with emerging simulation technologies and best practices
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Required Minimum Education: An earned BSNMaster of Science (MSN) in nursing degree or enrolled in an (MSN) degree program from regionally accredited institution of higher education in the US. Matriculated in graduate nursing degree with graduation date within 5 years
  • Possess a related non-nursing graduate degree
  • Possess a current Nurse education certification by a Board recognized certifying organization
  • Required Minimum Licensure:
