Nursing Education Coordinator

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s (DPH) Bureau of Health Professions Licensure is comprised of the twenty-one Boards of Registration and Certification and the Drug Control Program as well as shared service units that support these programs. The Board of Registration in Nursing for the Bureau of Health Professions Licensure is seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented nurse to serve as the Nursing Education Coordinator.

The selected candidate will direct and evaluate the implementation of Board of Registration in Nursing rules and regulations for all nursing education programs leading to initial licensure as a professional or practical nurse. Additionally, they will coordinate all aspects of the initial nurse licensure by exam process and provide expert consultation and advice to the board members on all matters concerning entry-level nursing education and examination for initial licensure.

Candidates should possess exceptional organizational skills, strong computer skills for data analysis, as well as strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ensures that all Board laws, regulations, policies and recommendations regarding entry-level nursing education and initial nurse licensure by examination are accurately communicated to all appropriate parties.
• Conducts regularly scheduled surveys of all Board-approved nursing education programs according to Board regulations, policies and guidelines to evaluate the program’s regulatory compliance. Conducts meetings with administration of the parent institution and the program, and nursing faculty.
• Prepares evidence-based reports with regulation-based recommendations to the Board for action related to the program’s approval status.
• According to Board regulations, policies and guidelines, guides and directs the establishment of new nursing education programs leading to initial nurse licensure. Evaluates institutional applications for Board-approval to establish a nursing education program leading to initial nurse licensure.
• Evaluates proposed changes to Board-approved nursing education programs for regulatory compliance and makes regulation-based recommendations to the Board for action. Conducts meetings with program administration and nursing faculty. Prepares evidence-based reports with regulation-based recommendations to the Board for action.
• Analyzes annual reports submitted by nurse administrators of all Board-approved nursing education programs for regulatory compliance. Prepares reports with regulation-based recommendations to the Board for action regarding the program’s approval status. Compiles, maintains and analyzes statewide statistics on admissions, enrollments and graduates.
• Oversees initial nurse licensure by examination application processes and functions.
• Compiles, maintains and analyzes quarterly and annual licensure examination performance by Board-approved nursing education programs. Communicates national, state and program NCLEX pass rates to Board and to each Board-approved program. Makes recommendations to Board for review of program approval based on ongoing annual NCLEX pass rate less than 80%.
• Initiates and coordinates special projects and research studies related to patient care, entry-level nursing education and NCLEX performance.
• Serves as the Board’s representative to other state regulatory agencies, to the legislature and professional associations and organizations on matters related to entry-level nursing education and initial nurse licensure by examination.
