Job Description I.
Position Summary:
Responsible for the operation and oversight of the Occupational Health (OH) program on the Roslindale and Dedham Campuses. Manages and supervises the staff in Occupational Health and is responsible for the adherence to practice and legal standards. Ensures the delivery of high-quality employee health services while maintaining compliance with federal, state, local and organizational regulations. The Nurse Manager oversees programs related to employee health, pre-employment screenings, immunizations, workers compensation coordination, return to work processes, regulatory reporting and health surveillance.
The nurse manager role provides clinical leadership and supervision to Occupational Health staff, implements and maintains policies, monitors quality and performance metrics, and collaborates closely with Human Resources (HR), Infection Control, Safety and Risk Management and organizational leadership.
- Determine OH staffing needs for Roslindale, Dedham campus. Hires and trains new staff as needed.
- Monitors and evaluates staff performance.
- Oversight of day-to-day operations of OH including staffing, adherence to established budgets, and ensuring efficiency and timely delivery of services
- Ensures compliance to department standards and regulatory requirements.
- Oversees processes and systems to ensure efficiency, compliance, and productivity of the department.
- Oversees clinical protocols and determines appropriateness of treatments provided by the department in relation to regulations and resources.
- Collaborates with medical staff and leadership to provide care to employees as needed and within scope of Occupational Health Service
- Works in collaboration with the OH Director and/or Finance Director to manage department budget
- Identifies and facilitates performance improvement projects.
- Serves as pivotal leadership to the Employee Safety Committee
- Creates a culture of teamwork and collaboration with all interacting departments
- Ensures complete and accurate record keeping and reports.
- Adhere to established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives. Develop and update departmental policies and procedures as needed.
- In collaboration with human resources develops programming to support wellbeing of employees.
- Develops and provides presentations to communicate results and/or educational information.
- Educates leadership regarding Workers Compensation and Occupational Health issues.
- Facilitates and coordinates systems and processes to minimize workplace injury and colleague safety
- Conducts and/or supervises occupational health services, including employee physical examinations, pre-employment and return to work assessments, and health surveillance activities, ensuring all services are performed within the registered nurse scope of practice and in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards
- Receive, evaluate and respond appropriately to employees visiting the Occupational Health Department with work related and non-work-related injuries, complaints and/or requests for assistance.
- Administer first aid to injured employees in accordance within scope of practice.
- Arrange transportation for employees requiring additional medical treatment or hospital services.
- Administer necessary medications to alleviate various complaints.
- Manages work-related injuries; triages non-work- related injuries/illnesses; available for consult for management by other staff members
- Partner with Human Resources recruitment team on creating pre-employment health screening schedule and mandatory forms to be completed.
