The inpatient neuroscience unit consists of 3 floors in our newest state of the art Lunder building. The Lunder building is a beautiful open space with floor to ceiling windows, private rooms, and access to the latest equipment promoting an optimal care environment. Neuroscience nurses at MGH are part of an amazing team of clinicians who provide exceptional care to complex patients with a primary neurological diagnosis.

Our neuroscience nurses care for an adult population that includes a variety of primary neurological diagnoses such as stroke, head and spine trauma, and degenerative spine disease requiring surgical intervention. Our neuroscience nurses become experts in the care of this complex patient population with proficiency caring for patients with altered mental status, external drains, including cerebral and lumbar drains, mechanical ventilation, and parenteral feeding tubes.

• Maintain accurate, detailed reports, and records.
• Administer medications to patients and monitor patients for reactions or side effects.
• Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
• Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions.
• Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans.
• Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.

Education Associate's Degree Nursing required or Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.

Registered Nurse RN - MA State License. Experience Clinical nursing experience 0-1 year required.

• Familiarity with the principles and skills needed for practical nursing to provide patient care and treatment.
• Knowledgeable of the care required by respective age groups for which care is being provided.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and secure sensitive information.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Excellent verbal and communication skills.
• Ability to accurately screen and triage acute patients.
