Description

We are looking for a temporary full-time Animal Welfare Specialist. The position will require working some weekend days. Anticipated length of assignment is 3-4 months.

THE POSITION:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Temporary Animal Welfare Specialist at our Boston Adoption Center. We are looking for a candidate who can deliver compassionate client service in a fast-paced environment for people looking to adopt or surrender. In the AWS role, you are often the first point of contact for pet families in need. You will spend part of your day hands-on with the animals at the adoption center and part of the day assisting the public with adoptions and surrenders.

The vision of the MSPCA Animal Protection Division is to proactively address the underlying issues that put animals  value our connections to communities and organizations, and serve as a resource to protect the largest number of animals possible. Animal Welfare Specialists (AWS) are at the forefront of this mission, working directly with people and their pets to effect positive change in our community.

  • Ensuring animals receive the best quality care including feeding, cleaning, exercising, socializing, enrichment, training, behavior observations and health/welfare monitoring.
  • Facilitating adoptions by matchmaking animals with prospective adopters using a conversation-based approach with a goal of identifying the best possible outcome for the person and the animal.
  • Answering incoming phone calls, emails and in person communications in regards to adoptions and surrenders.
ABOUT THE BOSTON ADOPTION CENTER:

The MSPCA is the largest animal welfare organization in the state - caring for and placing over 11,000 animals annually across our four adoption centers. The Boston Adoption Center is home to our low cost community clinic and a robust community outreach program. We also care for and place into homes over 2,000 animals each year with a 92% live release rate.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:

We are looking for applicants with at least six months of previous work with animals. Previous animal shelter experience is a plus! Applicants should also demonstrate excellent judgment, interpersonal skills and an eagerness to support the human-animal bond.

Applicants with a proficiency in Spanish are strongly encouraged to apply.
