OverviewThe Animal Science Center is part of the Office of Research, a group dedicated to aiding the research community in navigating the lifecycle of their work, from finding funding to creating proposals to helping inventions find their way to the public. Our mission is to ensure that while aiding in academic studies, animal care, health and welfare is maintained at the highest standards according to Institutional, local, state, and federal regulations, policies and procedures.
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training and internal pay comparison. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
- Daily quality animal care for all Aquatics Facility species, such as fish and frogs.
- Animal husbandry tasks such as tank changes, animal health checks, veterinary health monitoring and treatment, aquatics systems maintenance, and facility maintenance (i.e., sanitization of equipment, research housing areas and materials).
- Additional responsibilities include animal housing, census data collection, and others as assigned.
- Training includes following standard operating procedures for Biosafety Levels: ASBL‑1 and ASBL‑2 and Chemical Containment Levels: CCL‑1, CCL‑2 and CCL
3. - Complete assignments independently and as a whole.
- Communicate via email, text, call through smartphone and computers.
- Accurate record keeping and attention to detail.
- Build working relationships with researchers, veterinary staff, and co‑workers.
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1 year of experience in the field or a related setting (relevant education may be substituted for experience).
- Professional and courteous demeanor.
- Strong communication skills via email, text, phone, smartphone and computer.
- Detail oriented and accurate record keeping.
