Description:
The purpose of the Product Development & Testing position is to complete assignments in support of R&D process development for the commercialization of new medical wire coating applications. The successful candidate will assume responsibility for testing and analysis of the development process for new PTFE (plastics) and non-PTFE coatings. Deliverables will include documentation and reporting on test results. Primary responsibilities include testing new coating process development samples in the QC lab.
Additional duties include working with R&D, Engineering, Planning, Manufacturing, and Quality to support day-to-day process development runs. Support for coating formulation preparation may also be required as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Apply ASTM standards for QC testing methods and inspections by performing friction, tensile, scratch/nanoindentation, pin-on-wire, saline-soak, and microscopy tests, including all associated sample preparation, while operating sensitive equipment (Admet UTM, Bruker Hysitron, Instron, Anton Paar, VHX) with extreme care to avoid damage and ensure data reliability.
- Analyze test outputs using ADMET Advanced Materials Testing System MTESTQuattro, Tribo Scan, Origin, and Python, recognizing good vs. bad data, troubleshooting test anomalies, and suggesting improvements to methods and sample prep.
- Support R&D, QC, Validation, and Manufacturing by prioritizing multiple test requests, planning for long-cure sample prep steps, and maintaining consistent test quality despite equipment limitations and non-standardized methodologies.
- Author test method documentation and participate in the test method validation process.
- Work within the established company-wide quality documentation system, including key aspects such as executing test methods per procedure, collecting and documenting test results, writing test data reports and procedures.
- Follow Quality Management System requirements in an ISO 13485 / GMP manufacturing environment.
Qualifications:
- Lab experience with material testing or mechanical engineering
- Ability to maintain consistent and clear documentation
- Ability to balance equipment testing queues.
- Strong computer and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both in a team and independently.
- Experience with Instron, VHX microscopy, or Bruker Hysitron is a plus.
Education &
Certifications:
- Minimum of a 2-yr degree or equivalent, a bachelor's degree is a plus.
