Ampersand is currently seeking a highly motivated scientist with a background in protein sciences to contribute to the discovery and development of AND-Body™ Therapeutics. The role will focus on antibody engineering, protein production and purification, and biochemical and biophysical characterization to support biologic therapeutics development.
Key Responsibilities- Support the research team in protein production and characterization across multiple research programs.
- Perform protein and antibody production activities, including cell culture, transfection, and protein purification.
- Execute protein and antibody biophysical characterization using techniques such as SDS‑PAGE, aSEC, BLI, SPR, DSF, DSC, cIEF and other emerging tools.
- Optimize critical parameters for binding assays, including Alpha
LISA and HTRF. - Perform ELISA assays to measure serum antibody titers and functional biomarkers.
- Collaborate with team leads on antibody campaign efforts to support antibody discovery programs.
- Maintain clear, effective communication and strong collaboration with cross‑functional colleagues.
- Ensure high standards of data integrity and maintain accurate and well‑documented research records in electronic laboratory notebook (ELN).
- B.S. or M.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant laboratory experience in an academic or industrial setting.
- Experience in construct design, plasmid prep, and protein/nucleic acid sequence analysis.
- Hands‑on experience in protein expression and purification, including production in
E. coli, mammalian, and/or cell‑free systems. - Strong theoretical knowledge and hands‑on experience in chromatography, including FPLC (ÄKTA) and HPLC using SEC, HIC, and IEX chromatography columns.
- Practical experience with multiple biochemical and biophysical techniques, including SDS‑PAGE, Western blotting, BLI, SPR, DSF, DSC, MS, Alpha
LISA, and HTRF. - Ability to analyze and interpret complex datasets using statistical software (e.g. Excel, Graph Pad Prism).
- Excellent data record keeping and organization.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly interpret data and present results to project teams.
- Experience with high-throughput protein production and characterization
- Experience with membrane protein production and characterization
- Knowledge of protein structure and structure‑based analysis tools.
- Publication record and experience with scientific conference posters and presentations
- Industry experience as a Protein Sciences team member within a pharmaceutical or biotechnology company

The salary range for this role is $81,000.00 - $. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience. Ampersand currently offers healthcare coverage, annual incentive program, retirement benefits and a broad range of other benefits. Compensation and benefits information is based on Ampersand’s good faith estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future.
