Life Sciences Technology
Department: Professional Services
Employment Type: Freelance
Location: Remote
Description
Skyword is seeking highly technical life sciences writers to develop scholarly, editorial-grade content for Corning Life Sciences. This role requires writers who can translate complex scientific concepts into precise, credible, and reader-accessible narratives for an expert audience-including bench scientists, lab managers, procurement leaders, and laboratory distribution partners.
Key Responsibilities
Ideal candidates bring deep domain expertise across biotechnology and laboratory operations, with demonstrated knowledge in areas such as liquid handling, cell culture (including 3D cell culture), media, sera and serum products, cell therapy workflows, core lab consumables and equipment, sustainability in laboratory environments, and lab efficiency optimization. Candidates should possess a strong scientific foundation (e.g., BS, MS, or PhD in biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, or related disciplines) and/or hands-on laboratory or scientific industry experience, with the ability to write at a peer-to-peer level while maintaining editorial clarity and accuracy.
Writers must be able to explain highly technical concepts and products to business-level purchasers for laboratories across the life sciences industries. The brand's tone is innovative and authoritative but approachable-writers must know the products and context well enough to interview subject-matter experts and describe why the brand's evolving features and developments matter to scientists' everyday lives.
The range of editorial and technical content may include blogs, SEO-informed articles, feature articles, ebooks, application-focused narratives, and product-aligned educational content. Topics will center on laboratory workflows, consumables, and technologies-including liquid handling, cell culture and cell therapy, media and sera, lab equipment, lab efficiency, lab techniques, and sustainability in modern laboratory environments.
Assignments will require the ability to communicate with scientific precision and authority while aligning with the informational needs of laboratory practitioners, managers, and procurement stakeholders.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
The preference will go to writers with an academic or hands-on experience with scientific lab equipment and familiarity with writing about life sciences fields. Long-time or established science writers without this experience will be considered with exceptional writing samples.
Multiple project opportunities are expected throughout 2026, with an anticipated cadence of approximately 1-2 assignments per month.
To be considered: (1) Supply a succinct description of your educational, field, and/or writing experience. (2) Provide 3 relevant writing samples from 2023 or later.
