The Advancement Research intern will support the Development Research Team in providing high-quality and timely information and data analysis to City Year Headquarters Development and to fundraising staff across twenty-three locations. The intern will support the Development Research Team in researching and qualifying current and potential donors to City Year Headquarters and sites by producing comprehensive reports and/or basic assessments for private sector funders using online, internal and print sources.

Conduct independent research to identify new prospective donors for City Year Headquarters and its twenty-three locations. Collaborate with development staff regularly to assist in prospect identification, qualification and strategy. Contribute information to and assist in maintaining confidential donor database.

Responsibilities:

The Advancement Research Intern will contribute to the development team's success by:

Working independently to identify new individual prospects

  • Identify new prospects for sites and HQ using available public sources and the paid research database, Wealth Engine

Working independently to provide timely research on current and prospective individual, corporate and foundation donors

  • Complete requests for comprehensive research profiles within 2 weeks of date requested
  • Complete requests for basic assessments (basic profiles) within 1 week of date requested
  • Complete requests for a tailored and specific information search within 1 week of data requested
  • Complete 50 basic assessments on current and prospective donors for Headquarters

Working with the Development Research Team with data-entry and quality management of the fundraising database

Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to utilize open-source, publicly available information and data. Strong sense of ethics and donor privacy protection. Resourceful in collecting disparate pieces of information and using that information to create a holistic picture of the subject matter.

Project Management and Organizational Skills

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple research projects and meet deadlines. Flexible, persistent and resilient to changing priorities; able to prioritize and take initiative in fast-paced, changing environment. Organized with attention to detail. Systems-thinker.

Tech Savvy

Ability to utilize various technology, databases and applications. Pro-active attitude towards learning new technology and using technology to optimize work.

Ability to manage relationships with diverse development staff. Strong presentation and liaison skills are required. Demonstrated tact and diplomacy in difficult or sensitive situations. Strong written and oral communication skills. Experience working in an entrepreneurial, dynamic organization; enthusiastic with sense of humor.

Commitment to Team

Able to work well towards independent goals and as a part of a diverse cross-functional team. Comfortable giving and receiving feedback. Collaborative work style; teamwork orientation; ability and willingness to serve on or lead a team. As needed, contribute to and participate in general City Year activities and events including City Year's annual staff training (Summer Academy).
