Overview
Senior Principal Scientist (Senior Medical Director) – Translational Medicine, Immunology. This role plans and manages a critical inflection point in drug development, translating preclinical discovery into compounds ready for large‑scale clinical assessment. The position requires a physician‑scientist with a proven track record in the pharmaceutical industry and independent academic research, focusing on Immunology R&D and clinical expertise in fields such as Dermatology, Rheumatology, or Gastroenterology.
Responsibilities- Lead the development and execution of early clinical development strategy for novel Immunology assets, including Phase 1a/b trials and clinical pharmacology studies from Preclinical Candidate approval through Phase 2a Proof‑of‑Concept.
- Partner with discovery research teams to identify novel targets and provide clinical insight at the earliest stages of target identification and validation.
- Develop biomarker strategies across cross‑functional teams, executing Experimental Medicine studies to validate new clinical biomarker platforms.
- Ensure safe and timely execution of Phase I studies and coordinate with internal and external clinical study support staff.
- Provide clinical pharmacology support for programs through worldwide marketing application filings, including supportive registration documents and presentations.
- Communicate and interpret study results to therapeutic area governance, functional area experts, and development review committees.
- Collaborate with key functions such as Discovery Sciences, Preclinical Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Toxicology, Translational Biomarkers, and late‑stage Clinical Research across sites in the USA, UK, and Belgium.
- MD or MD/PhD degree.
- Minimum 5‑year experience in the pharmaceutical industry, preferably in immunology clinical research, including translational research.
- Track record of independently conceived and executed research and clinical patient care experience.
- Proven expertise in clinical research within the pharmaceutical sector and clinical care of patient populations in Dermatology, Rheumatology, or Gastroenterology.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Board certification or eligibility (MD or MD/PhD) preferred.
- Academic research experience in any immunology field.
- Experience with Clinical Trial Development, Drug Development, Gastroenterology, Immunology, and Translational Research.
- Demonstrated record of scientific publications and research achievements.
