Project Description

A Research Lab Tech position is open in the Genetics and Aging Research Unit at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. The goal of the project is to use the understanding of CD33 function to design novel therapeutic strategies for enhancing clearance of the aggregation‑prone amyloid beta peptide in Alzheimer's disease.

The aims of the project are to study the effects of CD33 siRNA‑loaded nanoparticles on amyloid beta clearance and release of pro‑inflammatory cytokines in microglial cells and mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease. The project will include experiments using a cell culture approach based on microglial cell lines. The effects of CD33 siRNA‑loaded nanoparticles on microglial cell function will be analyzed by using ELISA, confocal microscopy, and Western blotting.

This project also entails in vivo work with mouse models of Alzheimer’s disease, genotyping, cardiac perfusion, brain tissue collection, neuropathology analysis of brain samples, flow cytometry, imaging, and behavioral tests including open field test, Y‑maze, and contextual fear conditioning.

This position has an anticipated starting timeframe in June 2026.
