The HIDIVE Lab in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Harvard Medical School is conducting research at the interface of human and artificial intelligence. We create methods and tools that enable humans and machines alike to interact with and generate insights from biomedical data. In our work, we combine state‑of‑the‑art biomedical informatics, data visualization, and AI/ML techniques across the full spectrum of biomedical data.

Your Role

As an Associate in the lab, you will be part of our research team and contribute one or more of the following skills to HIDIVE Lab projects:

  • Research and methods development
  • Software engineering, visualization, user interface, or user experience design
  • Data collection, management, and analysis
  • Academic writing

You will work under the mentorship of the PI, postdoctoral fellows, or other senior lab members.

Resources

The HIDIVE Lab participates in large‑scale collaborative projects that provide access to a large number of datasets across many data modalities as well as large user audiences and collaborators who are leading experts in their biomedical domains. We also work with many individual collaborators at Harvard and beyond, who bring their computational, data science, and biomedical expertise to our projects.

Our work also benefits from multiple research software products (e.g.,
Hi Glass ,
Vitessce
, Gosling
, HuBMAP Data Portal User Interface
, etc.) that the HIDIVE Lab has developed and maintains through a team of engineers and designers. These products are used by individual scientists, consortia, and companies worldwide and can serve as a framework to implement and disseminate the outcomes of our research.

Basic Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for this role are:

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in biomedical informatics, computer science, computational biology, data science, or a related field.
  • Prior research experience (internships, research assistantships) and contributions to scientific projects involving computational work.
Additional Qualifications

If visa sponsorship is needed, Harvard retains the discretion to determine which visa status is appropriate and whether a visa sponsorship application will ultimately be submitted, including payment of any applicable fees.

Salary Range

$60,000 – $67,000
