The Process Research and Development department of Merck Research Laboratories is seeking a talented and motivated Research Chemist to join the team at our Boston, Massachusetts research facility. This is an exciting, laboratory-based role focused on supporting cutting-edge reaction discovery and process development. Responsibilities- Support laboratory-based reaction discovery and process development initiatives.
- Execute organic synthesis, utilizing advanced synthetic methodologies and catalysis techniques.
- Conduct total synthesis and explore areas of physical organic chemistry or flow chemistry.
- Design and execute high-throughput reactions to optimize processes efficiently.
- Perform the synthesis, purification, and analytical characterization of various organic compounds.
- Utilize advanced analytical tools, including HPLC, MS, and NMR, for compound characterization.
- Troubleshoot complex chemical processes and maintain a proven track record of solving technical problems.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional team members in a dynamic environment.
- A PhD in Chemistry, OR an MS degree in Chemistry.
- For MS candidates: A minimum of 5 years of experience in organic synthesis (including synthetic methodology, catalysis, and/or total synthesis).
- A proven track record of solving complex scientific problems.
- Preferred experience in specific modalities: methodology/catalysis (chemocatalysis, biocatalysis, and heterogeneous catalysis), total synthesis, physical organic chemistry, or flow chemistry.
- Demonstrated hands‑on experience in the purification and analytical characterization of organic compounds (HPLC, MS, NMR).
- Preferred experience in high‑throughput reaction design and execution.
