Overview

SEA seeks a motivated Research Associate Intern to support a wide range of projects for diverse clients. The role offers exposure to renewable‑energy research, market analysis, and policy evaluation, and the opportunity to work on deliverables that reach industry stakeholders.

Job Description

Interns will assist in developing analyses and reports on renewable‑energy legislation, market dynamics, and technology economics. Typical tasks include:

  • Writing weekly content for our Eyes & Ears newsletter, summarizing recent legislation and studies
  • Modifying the Renewable Energy Market Outlook (REMO) proprietary model, including data‑scraping in Python and market‑entry research
  • Conducting quantitative studies on cost drivers for electric vehicles, green hydrogen, and energy storage
  • Performing GIS analysis of potential renewable‑energy siting locations
Job Responsibilities
  • Monitor and summarize current renewable‑energy regulatory, legislative, and policy developments
  • Perform detailed qualitative and quantitative research on energy‑related policy and business activities, including New England REC markets
  • Support the development of new SEA products and services
Job Qualifications
  • Pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s degree in energy, public policy, economics, environmental studies, finance, or a related field
  • Demonstrated interest in renewable energy and climate change issues
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable with economic, financial, accounting, engineering, or environmental science analysis
  • Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Self‑starter and team player, able to work independently with intermittent supervision
  • Proficient with MS Excel, MS Word, and MS Power Point
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Passionate about learning new and unfamiliar topics
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate study or 1–2 years of industry experience in renewable energy
  • Experience tracking and analyzing legislation and public policy, with knowledge of the legislative process
  • Understanding of electricity markets and renewable‑energy policy, including solar and carbon markets
  • Strong MS Access or database skills, and knowledge of SQL
  • Interest and experience in marketing within the renewable‑energy sector
  • Experience with PGIS software, website design, or programming a plus
