Senior Staff Scientist – connectomics and sequencing

A Senior Staff Scientist will lead a team project to map cortical circuits from the synaptic level in the mouse brain, working with a collaborative team of academic, staff, and industrial researchers on Fluorescent in situ sequencing (FISSEQ) Technology.

The role includes managing the Wyss component of the IARPA Machine Intelligence from Cortical Networks (MICrONS) project, supervising a large team of Scientists, Postdocs, Engineers, and Technicians at the Wyss, coordinating with IARPA, collaborators, and partners, and performing significant bench work in FISSEQ development.

Reporting to the Lead Senior Staff Scientist in Synthetic Biology, the candidate will develop research lines in FISSEQ, address limitations in current methods, and work on tissue sections and optimization with Proximity Ligation and transgenic mouse models. Responsibilities include investigating, modifying, and developing new protocols, procedures, or techniques; developing commercially valuable technology; conducting biological experimentation and image analysis; overseeing software design and architecture;

mentoring students and fellows; collaborating with faculty; writing research proposals, grants, and patents; publishing manuscripts; presenting research results; and maintaining laboratory budgets and reporting results.

PhD in Biology or related area. At least 4 years of experience in molecular biology or related experience. Strong experience in synthetic biology, genetics, molecular biology protocols or related experience.
