Postdoctoral Researcher

Postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of Dr. Emily Moore at Northeastern University. Research in Dr. Moore's laboratory focuses on cellular behaviors surrounding bone and tooth formation, maintenance, aging, and repair. The successful candidate will support projects investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms of bone and tooth regeneration, as well as helping with daily laboratory upkeep tasks. The position involves a substantial amount of mouse work, mammalian cell culture, histology, molecular biology techniques, and imaging and associated analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • RTqPCR
  • In vitro cell culture with immortalized lines and primary cells
  • Histological processing and staining
  • Fluorescence microscopy
  • MicroCT scanning and analysis
  • Operation of various cell and tissue mechanical loading devices
  • Performance of rodent work, including husbandry, breeding, colony maintenance, genotyping, injections, survival surgery, tibial loading, euthanasia, and tissue collection

Dr. Moore has a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring, which this role must embrace. This includes attending and being engaged at semi-weekly lab meetings, assisting with supervision and training of students working in the lab, and volunteering for regional science fairs and symposiums (1-2 per year).

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

This position requires a Ph.D. in one or more of the following areas: stem cell biology, skeletal biology, developmental biology, bioengineering, or similar bioscience fields. Research experience with mouse husbandry and survival surgery, cell isolation and culture, microscopy, and microCT are highly desired.

The successful candidate will demonstrate flexibility in adapting methods/skills according to evolving project priorities. They must provide independent experimental designs and follow up regularly with Dr. Moore on planning, interpretation of results, and evaluation of data. Work in the Moore Lab requires good scientific thinkers: this role must be able to analyze and interpret data from different sources, draw relevant conclusions from existing literature, and demonstrate growing knowledge in specialized disciplines.

This role will also be expected to participate and present in regular lab meetings, author publications resulting from their work, present their work at conferences, and collaborate in applying for funding to support their efforts in these areas.

A high level of initiative and motivation is necessary to be successful in this role. This includes the ability to work independently and with a team, excellent communication, organizational skills, time management, and understanding the importance of being a good lab citizen. The candidate must have extremely high standards in terms of quality of work, attention to detail, task completion, and commitment to working on projects as determined by Dr.

Moore. They must be able to balance multiple tasks and shifting priorities under tight deadlines at an accelerated pace when necessary, a proven ability to work independently and creatively, and strong skills in written and spoken English.

$60,315.00 - $85,192.50
