Research Assistant II

Position Summary Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine and specialized laboratory experimental, specimen preparations and experimental procedures for the purpose of research. Utilizes specialized laboratory equipment and analysis of data generated by this equipment.

• In addition to the general responsibilities of a RA I, troubleshoots procedures if experimental results are unexpected or quality of specimens is poor.
• May suggest alternative routine procedures to crosscheck own findings.
• Performs techniques typically required for the laboratory/study.
• RA I plus. Assists with planning specific research procedures, coordinating schedules of experiments and procedures. Develops and troubleshoots new techniques specific to the lab.
• RA I plus. Maintains accurate records of results and methodologies into a log of work performed. Compiles and helps analyze data, preparing charts, graphs, and results of studies.
• RA I plus. Demonstrates basic laboratory techniques to laboratory assistants and technicians, research fellows, residents and students. Contributes to the team within and between departments and organizations.

• A bachelor's degree in addition to two years of relevant research experience; or, a master's degree in addition to one year of relevant research experience.
