The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $71,750 annually. This postdoctoral fellowship is offered by the Talkowski Laboratory in the Center for Genomic Medicine (CGM) at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and the Broad Institute. The Fellow will work on a long‑read genome sequencing (lrGS) project aimed at creating a population reference database (gnomAD‑LR) to improve variant interpretation, disease gene discovery, and association studies.
PrincipalDuties and Responsibilities
The Postdoctoral Fellow will be based at MGH under the guidance of Dr. Michael Talkowski and will contribute to translational genomics projects across institutions, including the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research, the Program in Medical and Population Genetics, and the Data Sciences Platform at the Broad Institute.
Key responsibilities include:
- Analyzing large‑scale genome sequencing datasets of millions of individuals.
- Developing and applying computational methods for lrGS data analysis.
- Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to design studies and interpret results.
- Publishing findings as first or co‑first author in peer‑reviewed scientific journals.
Skills & competencies required:
- Ph.D. in human genetics, quantitative genetics, computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, physics, mathematics, or a related field (or imminent completion).
- Strong background in human genetics, statistical genetics, and computational biology.
- Prior exposure to genome and transcriptome sequencing datasets.
- First or co‑first author of one or more peer‑reviewed scientific publications.
- Outstanding recommendations from prior research supervisors.
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Experience with commonly used bioinformatics tools and databases.
- Programming skills in R, Python, C++, or similar languages.
- Advanced knowledge of statistical methods.
- Expertise in analyzing next‑generation sequencing data.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast‑paced setting with multiple overlapping and shifting objectives.
