Job Description & How to Apply Below

LASE Innovation | Waltham, MA (On-site) | Chemistry R&D | Full-Time

LASE is building next‑generation single‑cell biology tools powered by our proprietary laser particle optical barcoding technology. We're looking for a Principal Scientist to lead bioconjugation chemistry — someone with a startup mindset, an interdisciplinary command of chemistry and biology, and the drive to build something new from the ground up. Director‑level title is possible for the right candidate, based on experience.

What

You’ll Do
  • Lead design and optimization of novel bioconjugation chemistries linking antibodies, oligonucleotides, and other biomolecules to semiconductor‑based microparticles
  • Own conjugation workflows end‑to‑end — from chemistry design through QC, SOPs, and scale‑up for manufacturing
  • Develop and refine conjugation approaches for bead‑based and live‑cell systems
  • Collaborate across chemistry, biology, and engineering to deliver integrated, application‑ready solutions
What You Bring
  • PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Materials Science, or related field
  • Hands‑on bioconjugation experience of antibodies and/or oligonucleotides on nano‑to‑micro particles
  • Strong grounding across chemistry, biology, and physical/materials science — comfortable moving fluidly between disciplines
  • Experience with covalent coupling strategies (amine, thiol, carboxyl, click chemistry) and surface/bead‑based conjugation
  • A track record of solving problems independently
  • A startup‑ready, growth‑oriented mindset — energized by fast pivots, high ownership, and building from scratch
Nice to Have
  • Experience scaling reactions from bench to pilot
  • Exposure to flow cytometry, immunoassays, or single‑cell analysis
  • Prior startup or early‑stage R&D experience
Why LASE
  • Foundational role shaping a platform technology from the ground up
  • High ownership and visibility on a small, ambitious team
  • Competitive compensation, equity, and benefits
