Overview
Clinical Director (Principal Scientist) has primary responsibility for strategic planning and directional oversight of clinical research activities involving investigational compounds in Immunology, with a focus on late‑stage development.
Primary Responsibilities- Evaluate pre‑clinical and translational work to generate early clinical development plans and Investigational New Drug (IND) applications.
- Provide clinical development support for external business development opportunities to expand the Immunology pipeline.
- Develop clinical development strategies for investigational drugs and plan clinical trials (design, operational plans, settings) based on those strategies.
- Monitor and manage the conduct of ongoing or new clinical trials for investigational drugs.
- Analyze and summarize clinical findings to support decisions regarding safety, efficacy, new drug applications, clinical study reports, or publications.
- Participate in internal and joint internal/external research project teams relevant to new compound development.
- Supervise activities of Clinical Scientists in executing clinical studies.
- Work closely with cross‑functional experts in commercialization, regulatory affairs, statistics, and manufacturing to manage clinical development projects.
- Assist senior leadership and product development teams with progress updates, competitor analysis, and expert insights on scientific questions.
- Maintain awareness of scientific developments in Immunology, including new findings and research methodologies.
- Identify and engage scientifically and operationally strong investigators for development of company investigational drugs.
- Establish collaborative relationships with external experts in Rheumatology diseases whose expertise can inform drug evaluation.
- Attend relevant scientific meetings to maintain competency and awareness of research activities.
- Author detailed development documents, presentations, budgets, and position papers for internal and external audiences.
- Facilitate collaborations with external researchers worldwide.
- Travel on company business approximately 20 percent of the time to manage future or ongoing clinical research projects.
- M.D., D.O., M.D./PhD, or D.O./PhD
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical and/or development experience in academia, clinical medicine, or corporate clinical development.
- Demonstrated record of scientific scholarship and achievement.
- Preferred:
Prior experience in design and execution of Phase 2 or Phase 3 clinical trials in rheumatologic diseases. - Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively in cross‑functional teams.
