Job Description Role SummaryThe Senior Director, Head of Cancer Biology, will report to the Head of U.S. Research and serve as a key member of the Boston site leadership team, operating as the primary scientific expert for the Cancer Biology group. In this role, the individual will steward a robust portfolio of small molecule oncology discovery programs forward, overseeing a mission that encompasses both target identification and the discovery and development of novel therapeutics.
As an experienced industry leader and people manager, this person will help devise and execute our research strategy to build a robust, diverse, and sustainable oncology portfolio, which emphasizes precision oncology and small molecule drug discovery, while cultivating a culture anchored on scientific integrity, open communication, and collaboration.
- Contribute to R&D cross‑functional strategy and oversight by serving as a member of the Boston site leadership team.
- Provide cancer biology expertise to lead target identification and validation as well as drug discovery efforts in Boston.
- Serve as Project Leader on early drug discovery projects.
- Lead and empower a team of team leaders and PhD and non‑PhD scientists by providing scientific, performance, and career development supervision and mentorship.
- Work collaboratively with global colleagues to foster innovation and ensure a cohesive global oncology strategy.
- Evaluate external opportunities shared by External Innovation.
- Support the organization by maintaining a work environment focused on scientific integrity, open communication, and collaboration.
- Ph.D. in biology, molecular & cellular biology, cancer biology, or related life science discipline.
- 12+ years of experience in cancer drug discovery in biotech or pharma.
- Experience in leading and mentoring PhD level scientists.
- Expertise in cancer biology.
- Demonstrated success in leading projects and interacting with cross‑functional teams.
- Demonstrated experience in small molecule drug discovery, from conception to IND submissions.
- Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and communication (presentation & writing) skills.
- Boston-based working in‑office at least 4 days per week; full‑time is preferred.
- Travel to Paris 1‑2 times per year is likely.

Salary RangeThe salary range for this role is $229k - $280k. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future.
Employees in this position are also eligible for Short‑Term and Long‑Term incentive programs.
