Research Scientist, Biotech Research
Soufflé Therapeutics is a biotech company focusing on the cell-type specific delivery of genetic medicines. It’s team of driven scientists is making a mark in delivery of oligonucleotides to extrahepatic tissues. We thrive in a purpose-building lab and office space in Watertown. Come and join us in our quest!
OverviewWe are looking for a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our expanding preclinical team as a Scientist I. This is a lab-based position centered on the development and execution of RNA molecular biology assays to assess the PD/PK properties of lead macromolecules in preclinical studies. You will work alongside a cross-functional team in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities- Independently conduct a wide range of laboratory experiments to support target validation, mechanism of action studies, and preclinical efficacy and safety assessments.
- Apply deep technical expertise in RNA biology and molecular assays, including PCR, RT-qPCR, ddPCR and/or NGS
- Set up state-of-the‑art formats of ligand binding assays (Western blotting, ELISAs with fluorescence or electrochemiluminescence detection) to quantify proteins including low level biomarkers in different tissues
- Maintain mammalian cell cultures and carry out transfection experiments with a high degree of technical proficiency.
- Enable effective transition of molecular and cell‑based assays to internal cross‑functional teams and external CRO partners for further development or validation
- Contribute to the design, planning, and execution of the sample’s bioanalysis from pharmacodynamic/pharmacokinetic (PD/PK) studies to characterize therapeutic candidates during preclinical development
- Contribute to various studies for target validation, mechanism of action elucidation, and to assess safety of development candidates using
-omics approaches - Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams, providing scientific insight and regular updates, including project leads and senior management.
- Participate in the preparation of technical documents, study reports, and regulatory submissions as needed.
- Monitor scientific literature and industry developments to integrate new technologies and methodologies that enhance the robustness and efficiency of experimental workflows.
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or a related life sciences discipline with a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant industry experience, or M. S. with 5 years of experience
- Strong background in RNA biology and designing and executing a range of molecular and cell‑based assays to support PD studies in preclinical settings.
- Demonstrated proficiency in molecular biology and biochemical techniques such as RT-qPCR, RNAscope, RNA-seq, and RNA-protein interaction assays (e.g., RNA pulldown).
- Hands‑on experience with emerging therapeutic modalities, especially oligonucleotide‑based therapeutics, including siRNA, antisense oligonucleotides, mRNA, and other synthetic RNA modalities and targeted delivery thereof.
- Skilled in scientific data management and analysis, with practical experience using tools such as Graph Pad Prism, Dotmatics, Snap Gene, and other relevant software platforms to support experimental design, visualization, and interpretation.
- Proven ability to innovate and apply scientific knowledge to the development and optimization of novel therapeutic approaches and experimental platforms.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving skills and the ability to address complex technical and scientific challenges with independence and creativity.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with a track record of meeting project deadlines in a fast‑paced, dynamic research environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for working in cross‑functional teams. Excellent scientific communication and presentation skills across various formats and audiences.
