Hematology and Oncology Research

Location:

Boston, MA

Schedule:

40 hours per week, On-site

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Technician provides research, laboratory and safety support. Utilizes solid foundation in basic laboratory techniques in areas such as molecular biology, genetics and cell biology. Participates in the planning and execution of experiments & projects and evaluation and interpretation of results. Provides assistance to students or other individuals who may be assigned to the laboratory on a regular or temporary basis.

May be assigned independent projects. Assists in providing lab infrastructure so that such studies can be performed effectively.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLIITES
  • basic laboratory maintenance
  • ordering and preparing laboratory reagents
  • maintaining zebrafish lines
  • performing experiments utilizing microinjection and advanced microscopy
  • recording and analyzing data using basic statistical and bioinformatics tools
  • exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail
  • multi-tasking ability
  • being enthusiastic and self-motivated
  • having a strong interest in stem cell research with experience in genetics, cellular, molecular, and/or developmental biology
  • experience in microscopy and/or zebrafish husbandry is desirable, but not required
  • ideal candidates should demonstrate good team-working abilities and strong collegiality as they will be part of a multidisciplinary network consisting of over 60 scientists within the Section of Hematology and Medical Oncology and the Center for Regenerative Medicine (CReM) at Boston University
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in biology or a related field
  • College level courses in biology, chemistry, molecular biology, cell biology and/or laboratory sciences are also required
  • One year experience in a laboratory setting preferred
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES
  • Excellent organizational skills and proficiency with basic computer software
  • Experience with wet lab work (standard molecular techniques)
  • Expertise in bioinformatics is a plus
  • Willingness to work with diverse experimental models, including zebrafish and primary cell culture

Compensation Range: $20.43- $28.61

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer.
