Postdoctoral Fellow – NHP Immunology and Organ Chips

The Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University seeks outstanding postdoctoral applicants with expertise in non-human primate immunology and virology or analysis of spatial omics data to join an interdisciplinary team of biologists and engineers to leverage in vitro organ-on-a-chip (Organ Chip) microfluidic culture systems to study and model and compare adaptive immunity and radiation toxicity in non-human primate and humans.

The position is within a team lead by Dr. Don Ingber and Dr. Girija Goyal which is developing model systems to help pharma and regulatory authorities make better decisions and therapies to treat radiation toxicity and develop better vaccines against respiratory viruses. In addition to contributing to or leading the publication of research articles, this role provides the opportunity to present your research to regulatory agencies, investors, pharma companies etc.

What you'll do:

• Develop models of intramuscular vaccination using NHP cells
• Work closely with cross-functional team members to develop hypotheses, interpret data, and advance project goals.
• Interpret spatial omics and functional data to describe differences in adaptive immune responses to vaccination and the effect of radiation toxicity on lymph nodes between published data in humans and NHPs and organ chip data.
• Present key results to project teams and stakeholders.
• Lead the preparation of research articles.
• Contribute to grants and patent applications.
• Mentor students and technicians and provide project feedback.

Basic Qualifications
- What you'll Need:

• Applicants are expected to hold a Ph.D.
• Ability to work in an independent manner and meet specific goals and milestones, but serve as part of a interdisciplinary team.
• Experience with immunological assays with NHP cells is required.
• Hands-on experience in performing primary human- and cancer- cell culture, complex cell-based assay development and screening technologies (including multicolor flow cytometry, RNA-seq, library preparation for scRNA-seq, MSD, ELISA, etc.).

Skills:

• Experience interpreting and integrating multi-omics datasets, including single-cell RNA-seq, bulk RNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, secretome/exosome profiling, and functional assay data.
• Experience with respiratory virology in vivo or in vitro
• Track record of innovative research in an academic or research setting.
• Exceptional organizational, technical writing abilities, and record-keeping skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Curiosity and interest in learning about microfluidic cultures and organ chips and desire to conduct research using these models.

Salary Range
- Starting Salary of $72,000 to $77,500 depending on experience
