Position: Research Assistant II, General Internal Medicine (BHEAT Study)

Job Overview

The Research Assistant II (RA2) will support the Boston Hypertension Equity Alliance in Treatment (BHEAT) study, a clinical trial designed to improve hypertension management and reduce disparities in safety net primary care clinics throughout Boston. The role involves administrative and research support for multiple grant‑funded studies.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with patient recruitment, scheduling study visits, administering questionnaires, and maintaining case report forms.
  • Enter and update data, manage databases, run reports, and store samples.
  • Serve as point of contact with participating sites to ensure complete and timely data collection.
  • Prepare and maintain Data Use Agreements, Institutional Review Board applications, and related documents.
  • Coordinate meetings and recordkeeping for research staff and sites.
  • Lead systematic literature reviews and summarize key findings.
  • Assist in developing efficient study processes and organizational approaches.
  • Develop polished deliverables such as reports, presentations, posters, abstracts, and manuscripts.
  • Oversee administrative duties and support grant budget tracking.
  • Train and supervise junior research assistants.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of research experience required for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree; no research experience required for candidates with a Master’s degree.
  • Experience with database design and management, particularly REDCap, is a plus.
  • Data analysis experience is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to adhere to study protocols.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage priorities, time, and multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Knowledge of research methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Interest in health equity, health systems research, public health, and health policy.

  • Motivated to engage and learn, with a problem‑solving mindset.
  • Ability to prepare clear, informative, visually appealing written deliverables, including tables and figures.

  • Self‑directed learning and initiative in gaining expertise in relevant research methods.

Work Schedule

40 hours per week, hybrid environment with in‑office days at BMC’s main campus and occasional site visits throughout Boston.
