Interviews will be held virtually. Working the summer is optional and a contingent offer. Employment for the summer is seasonal/temporary.
All individuals are required to commit to the duration of their assignment, with no exception.
The Food and Nutrition Services Department will be sponsoring the City of Boston's Summer Food Services Program. The goal of the program is to provide nutritious meals to children who are attending various community centers and public/private agency summer programs in the City of Boston. The program will primarily operate Monday through Friday. This position is required to work the duration of the Summer Program;
as needed. Mandatory training will be provided.
Stipend: $21.00 per hour, 7 hours per day
Schedule: Regular workday shift will vary based upon site programming - start/end times
Reports to: Site Manager
ResponsibilitiesEnsures that site personnel maintain accurate records and that the program operates in accordance with the Federal and State requirements pertaining to the Summer Food Service Program Regulations.
- Participates in food preparation and service in order to maintain high standards of food flavor and appearance.
- Prepares, cooks, packages and serves hot and cold meals; while maintaining a standard of food flavor and appearance.
- Assists in ordering food and supplies in accordance with menu and volume requirements.
- Verifies deliveries and safeguards storage of food and supplies.
- Ensures the health and safety of students and personnel by instructions in adherence to The Massachusetts Sanitary Code.
- Accounts for meals served, leftovers and adjusts quantities accordingly to minimize waste
- Food Safety or Food Handler Certification
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Must have good math skills
- Dependable, available for the duration of the Summer Programming
- Must have good attendance and evaluations
- Must be willing to travel to all City of Boston neighborhoods
- College Degree
- Supervisory experience
- Familiarity with education and recreation programs for children in an urban setting
- Prior food service industry experience
