The objective of the Business Development Manager position is to identify, develop, and win opportunities with new customers and strategic accounts that can lead to long‑term, integrated energy and facilities management services contracts. This role is part of a focused team of hunters that builds relationships with prospects to create sustainable value across smart buildings, energy management, commissioning, and building operations & maintenance.
PrimaryDuties / Responsibilities
- Identify potential customers and conduct outreach to develop relationships with key decision makers in the client organization to assess opportunities.
- Execute the sales process, including lead development, follow‑up, and daily maintenance of the CRM database.
- Act as the primary client focal point and ambassador for the Veolia brand.
- Manage and participate in proposal preparation, pricing, and customer presentations.
- Collaborate with operations to formulate technical proposals reflecting a strategic approach to new projects.
- Lead negotiations with clients, including contract preparation and potential financing structure.
- Coordinate internal development activities, including technical audits by Veolia engineers.
- Serve as a close liaison with the Veolia team—operations, finance, legal, insurance, risk management, etc.—throughout the sales process.
- Assess competitor strengths, weaknesses, and strategic direction.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent commercial experience; an engineering undergraduate degree is a plus.
- 7–10 years of business development experience in the Energy & Utilities or Engineering Services industry; target experience in ESCO / Energy Performance Contracting, Microgrids / Distributed Energy, Smart Buildings, Facilities Management Outsourcing, Energy Advisory, or Commissioning.
- 3+ years of selling in commercial, industrial, and MUSH markets.
- Proven experience working in the Northern and/or Southern California markets.
- Hands‑on project experience working directly with clients.
- Proficient in business development strategies, strong negotiation skills, and an extreme drive for results.
- Strong team player.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Time‑management skills for organizing and managing multiple deadlines.
- Effective presentation skills.
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to foster teamwork.
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record if operating company vehicles.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), and other industry‑relevant certifications or training are a plus.
$150,000 to $170,000 per year.
