Job Description
Vertex is seeking an experienced commercial leader to join our U.S. Pain Business Unit to support the new acute pain treatment option, Journavx. The Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) Account Lead will develop and execute the GPO strategy and manage relationships with key GPO decision makers.
Responsibilities- Establish meaningful, professional relationships with key decision makers across assigned hospital GPOs (Vizient, Premier, Health Trust, The Resource Group, and Apexus) and their networks to accelerate Vertex brand access.
- Serve as the lead for hospital GPO accounts, responsible for developing and executing cross‑functional account strategies for product pull‑through.
- Lead contract and pricing negotiations, compliantly, to deliver favorable access through GPOs to their members in select classes of trade for Vertex products.
- Develop and implement strategic account plans in partnership with Market Access, Strategic Accounts, Commercial teams, and other internal stakeholders to support brand adoption within the GPO channel.
- Provide channel expertise to internal teams and ensure coordination and alignment in strategic planning and execution.
- Prepare and present regular reports on channel performance, trends, and strategic initiatives.
- Identify and develop business opportunities that support the Pain Business Unit strategies in collaboration with GPOs, including conferences, marketing programs, and other innovative opportunities.
- Partner across the Pain Business Unit with Market Access, Strategic Accounts, Commercial, Marketing, Contracting, Trade, Pricing, Legal, Compliance, Leadership, and other relevant support functions to drive product adoption and utilization of Journavx.
- Bachelor's degree.
- 8+ years of experience in healthcare/biopharmaceuticals.
- 5+ years of experience in GPO account management.
- Strong understanding of GPO operations and the healthcare supply chain.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with Group Purchasing Organizations.
- Experience in contract formation, negotiation, and management within a GPO setting.
- Success in developing innovative, growth‑ or volume‑based GPO price agreements.
- Demonstrated success in negotiating, executing, and implementing contracts.
- Strong budget, financial analysis, and modeling capability.
- Demonstrated history of achieving performance metrics and driving growth to support launch brands.
- Ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams.
- Commitment to maintaining the highest ethical standards and ensuring compliance with all company policies and applicable regulations.
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
Field‑based role with approximately 40% travel. Base salary range $166,400–$249,600, eligible for annual bonus and equity awards.
