Position: Territory Manager Market Support - Boston, MA

Position Overview

The primary purpose of this position is to develop and manage existing and new customers by selling food and non‑food items to achieve sales and profitability goals. The Territory Manager Market Support covers for Territory Managers while they work on other projects, with the expectation of transitioning to a Territory Manager role within 9‑12 months.

Key Responsibilities
  • Primary owner of customer relationship and sell, engaging customers in value‑added activities.
  • Leverage other resources to assist with top penetration opportunities and new accounts opening.
  • Cover for other Territory Managers by fostering customer relationships in a team‑based selling model.
  • Manage deliveries according to the routing schedule, troubleshoot issues during the order process, including pickup errors, load shortages, and stock‑outs.
  • Communicate and collect accounts receivable as needed, working with the credit department and clients to collect all balances due based on approved credit terms.
  • Develop new business; identify prospective customers using market intelligence databases, business directories, client leads, industry organizations, trade shows, and conferences.
  • Know market conditions, product innovations, competitor products, prices, and sales; share this information with customers as part of value‑added services.
  • Drive to existing customers and prospects, ensuring product delivery, and be able to lift or carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Assist with top penetration opportunities and new account openings.
  • Follow the territory manager training program and meet performance metrics required for transition to a Territory Manager role.
Supervision

No direct reports.

Relationships
  • Internal:
    District Sales Manager, Regional Sales Manager, VP of Local Sales, Accounting/Credit Department, Merchandising and Marketing, Operations, and Customer Contact.
  • External:
    Customers, vendors, prospective customers.
Work Environment

Frequently outside the office, traveling to customers in variable weather and temperature conditions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 1+ year of sales experience, preferred.
  • Food service industry, culinary, restaurant management, or hospitality experience preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and presentation abilities.
  • Ability to build internal and external relationships and conduct cold calls to develop new business.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Competitive spirit and results‑driven mentality.
  • Problem‑solving, organizational, and negotiation skills.
  • Team‑up mentality to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient computer skills;
    Microsoft Office; experience with customer relationship management tools preferred (e.g., Salesforce).
Education

HS Diploma or equivalent.

Licenses

Valid driver’s license required; motor‑vehicle record must be in good standing.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Annual incentive plan bonus may be received.
  • Benefits may include health insurance, pre‑tax spending accounts, retirement benefits, paid time off, short‑term and long‑term disability, employee stock purchase plan, and life insurance.

Compensation depends on relevant experience and/or education, specific skills, function, geographic location, and other factors as applicable by law. Initial expected base rate is $55,000–$95,000.
