Business Development Executive

A top client in the rigid packaging industry is searching for an experienced Business Development Executive (BDE) to cover their Northeast territory. As the BDE, your key responsibilities include developing new prospects and interacting with existing and prospective customers to increase sales in the Northeast US, which includes NY, NJ, MA, PA, and CT. Success in this role will require a strong field sales representative with excellent customer communication and the ability to work with multiple internal departments, including Product Development, Internal Sales, and Operations.

As the Business Development Executive, you will be responsible for:

  • Driving company organic growth by developing new business in high-priority industries (such as Personal Care, Specialty Food & Beverage), including analysis of target markets
  • New customer acquisition aligned with company Strategic Plan, including initial outreach and lead qualification
  • Account management of new and existing accounts as determined by business need
  • Management and growth of assigned accounts and prospects (Pipeline management, growth plan, CRM, Trade Shows, Reports, Inventory, Receivables, etc.)
  • Develop specific plans to ensure revenue growth in all the company's products related to relevant sales area
  • Educating customers on the company value proposition to win new profitable business
  • Providing input to the VP Sales for the development of realistic forecasts by customer and product based on historical data, market trends, competitive activity, promotional strategy, and sales effort.
  • Providing input into the development of sales objectives and expected sales volumes (new and existing customers and products)
  • Partnering with the Director of Product Development to generate new custom solutions for customers
  • Influencing the need for additional marketing materials to best represent our prospective and current customers' needs
  • Completing daily, weekly, and monthly sales reporting to inform sales plans and projections
  • Monitoring competitive activity to inform sales strategy
  • Adhering to all sales policies, practices, and procedures
  • Deploying sales strategies to improve market share in area of responsibility
  • Taking customer calls and email inquiries and providing feedback to internal and external customers.
  • Handling difficult customer situations in a professional and timely manner
  • Collaborating with other employees by providing important customer feedback, process improvement suggestions, and new product opportunities.
  • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies/trade associations.
  • To be successful in the role, you must possess:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Sales, Marketing or related work area, or equivalent education or work experience
    • Minimum 8+ years of progressive and successful Sales experience, specifically in the food/beverage, personal care, pharmaceutical or distribution packaging industry experience
    • 8+ years' work experience with a rigid packaging manufacturer
    • Proven ability to qualify leads, generate interest, and win new business, developing long-term customer relationships
    • Ability to learn new industry/products quickly, including understanding necessary technical details to effectively communicate value proposition to customers
    • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
