1/3 of food is wasted, but why?
Most food is still good to eat or cook at the expiry date, because the use-by dates are chosen to cover a worst-case scenario. They’re great for quality and safety, but cause £bns of waste. This decade, food will tell you how fresh it is, and the world will stop wasting food because of a fixed printed date.
We replace use-by dates and shelf-life testing with sensors that measure spoilage gas, and AI that predicts the remaining days of freshness. We invented this technology as scientists from Imperial College London, and we're using it to improve the whole supply chain, from food producers to households, and reduce the unbelievable amounts of waste caused by the 50-year-old system of destructive testing and printed expiry dates.
We are signing sales contracts with enterprise customers across Europe and North America, changing regulations and industry guidance as we go. Do you want to join Blak Bear as we become the food industry standard?
The Role
We’re hiring a Technical Account Manager to work directly with our Chief Revenue Officer to grow and support our customer base in North America. This is a hybrid role spanning sales, customer success, and solutions engineering — you ll help close new deals, onboard and support customers, and be the technical bridge between what our product does and what customers need it to do.
You re comfortable with technology and data, enjoy being in front of customers, and are willing to travel to customer and prospect sites as needed.
- Support the sales process for new accounts — participate in customer and prospect meetings, demo the product, answer technical questions, help move deals through the pipeline, and follow up to close.
- Own day-to-day relationships with an assigned portfolio of accounts, acting as the primary point of contact for customer needs and questions.
- Understand each customer s operations, data, and workflows well enough to configure, troubleshoot, and explain how Blak Bear s sensors and software fit into their process.
- Scope and manage customer pilots, from initial setup through evaluation and conversion to full deployment.
- Lead onboarding for new customers, including on-site visits to customer and prospect facilities.
- Monitor account health and usage data, proactively flagging risks and identifying opportunities to expand or improve the customer relationship.
- Translate customer feedback and technical requirements back to the engineering team.
- Prepare and deliver clear reporting and data summaries to customers and internally.
- Travel regularly to customer and prospect sites and industry trade shows to build relationships, support installations, and troubleshoot issues in person.
- 3–5 years of experience in a customer-facing role such as account management, customer success, sales engineering, or technical sales — ideally in a technology, food, or IoT/sensor-related business.
- Comfortable with technology and data: able to work with data, spreadsheets, and technical concepts, and to explain them clearly to customers.
- Able to leverage AI tools to work more efficiently and support customers.
- Strong relationship-building skills and genuine enjoyment of working directly with customers.
- Self-starter who is comfortable with ambiguity and wearing multiple hats in a small, fast-moving company.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Willing and able to travel regularly to customer and prospect sites and industry trade shows.
- Based in the Greater Boston area, with a hybrid work arrangement involving regular in-person collaboration with the CRO.
- Bachelor s degree in a technical, scientific, or business field preferred.
