Position: Field Scientist - (Seasonal June - October)

Field Scientist - (Seasonal June - October)

Trileaf is seeking a temporary ecologist/biologist to conduct field work to conduct migratory bird evaluations in Boston area. This position is based in our Boston office.
This will be a temporary full time role running June - October.

Salary Range: $48,000.00 To $55,000.00 Annually

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform ground-based field investigations for migratory bird surveys and any necessary permitting with state/local agencies.
  • Gathering, analyzing, and interpreting scientific data.
  • Assist in preparing reports in support of projects, including protected species and natural habitat assessments, environmental impacts, and biological evaluations.
  • Perform routine and sometimes complex tasks related to field data collection, including preparing and transcribing field notes.
  • Ability to conduct a preliminary screening of listed and/or proposed threatened and endangered species and critical habitat.
  • Review publicly available databases such as the National Wetlands Inventory and FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps.
  • Phase I ESA responsibilities include conducting site visits of wireless communications facilities and commercial properties.
  • NEPA responsibilities include conducting site visits of proposed wireless communications facilities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Strong work ethic
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to conduct field work
  • Ability and willingness to travel (75% travel, 25% office)
  • Commitment to excellence



Preferred Qualifications /

Experience:

  • Working knowledge of the nesting cycle and behaviors of common raptor species
  • Experience using binoculars, spotting scopes, and cameras
  • Experience with “digiscoping” techniques
  • Experience with GIS, GPS, and mapping software
  • Regulatory agency permitting
  • GPS data collection and mapping support
  • ArcGIS online mapping and data collection applications
  • National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) assessments

Education
:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in biology, ecology, environmental science, forestry, physical or natural sciences, or related fields
