Field Scientist - (Seasonal June - October)
Trileaf is seeking a temporary ecologist/biologist to conduct field work to conduct migratory bird evaluations in Boston area. This position is based in our Boston office.
This will be a temporary full time role running June - October.
Salary Range: $48,000.00 To $55,000.00 Annually
Essential Job Functions:
- Perform ground-based field investigations for migratory bird surveys and any necessary permitting with state/local agencies.
- Gathering, analyzing, and interpreting scientific data.
- Assist in preparing reports in support of projects, including protected species and natural habitat assessments, environmental impacts, and biological evaluations.
- Perform routine and sometimes complex tasks related to field data collection, including preparing and transcribing field notes.
- Ability to conduct a preliminary screening of listed and/or proposed threatened and endangered species and critical habitat.
- Review publicly available databases such as the National Wetlands Inventory and FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Maps.
- Phase I ESA responsibilities include conducting site visits of wireless communications facilities and commercial properties.
- NEPA responsibilities include conducting site visits of proposed wireless communications facilities.
Basic Qualifications:
- Strong work ethic
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to conduct field work
- Ability and willingness to travel (75% travel, 25% office)

Preferred Qualifications /
Experience:
- Working knowledge of the nesting cycle and behaviors of common raptor species
- Experience using binoculars, spotting scopes, and cameras
- Experience with “digiscoping” techniques
- Experience with GIS, GPS, and mapping software
- Regulatory agency permitting
- GPS data collection and mapping support
- ArcGIS online mapping and data collection applications
- National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) assessments
Education
:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in biology, ecology, environmental science, forestry, physical or natural sciences, or related fields
