The Metro Boston Area Department of Mental Health (DMH) is currently hiring for the position of Security Team Specialist II.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervisor of Security Team Specialists I.
  • Patrol all buildings, grounds, and adjacent areas of the hospital at regular intervals and guard against trespass, theft, fire, and damage to property.
  • Maintain order among visitors and staff; oversee motor vehicle traffic controls on hospital grounds including parking, speeding, and other traffic conditions, taking necessary measures to prevent unauthorized use of hospital roads and parking facilities.
  • Perform security duties such as screening visitors, directing traffic, and enforcing parking controls.
  • Provide personal protection to individuals as required, including searching for missing goods and persons, conducting surveillance, and investigating complaints and reports of suspicious activities.
  • Assist with custodial supervision of medically ill and mental health clients, and escort them to various appointments.
  • Coordinate the maintenance of hospital firefighting equipment, alarm systems, and other safeguards; report defects and request repairs to ensure compliance with safety standards and requirements.
  • Monitor hospital switchboard, gauges, and alarm indicator panels; take necessary action in event of malfunction or alarm, including system resets.
  • Prepare reports on investigations conducted and noteworthy incidents during tour of duty.
  • Preserve crime scenes and fire sites, perform searches and inspections, serve court summons to patients or staff, and perform related safety and security duties as necessary and directed.
Required Qualifications
  • Skill to deal tactfully with others and interact with individuals under physical and/or emotional stress.
  • Capability to maintain a calm composure in stressful and emergency situations.
  • Ability to make decisions and act quickly in dangerous or emergency situations.
  • Capacity to exercise discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in gathering information through questioning individuals, conducting interviews, and examining records and documents.
  • Ability to lift persons or heavy objects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior health care facility security or law enforcement experience.
  • CPR certified, First Responder, and NARCAN trained.
  • Ability to solve problems and relate to hospital staff, constituents, and other community members in a positive and professional manner.
  • Talent for recognizing the cultural diversity of the campus community and ensuring sensitive and equitable treatment of all who work and visit the campus.
  • Bilingual or multilingual fluency preferred.

Note:

This position is 40 hours per week, working the first shift (7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.). Days off are Tuesday and Wednesday.

Minimum Entrance Requirements

Applicants must have at least two (2) years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time experience in work involving the protection and/or security of buildings, equipment, or individuals, or a combination of the required experience and the following substitutions:

• An associate’s degree with a major in a related field may substitute for up to one (1) year of the required experience.

• A bachelor’s degree or higher with a major in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

Incumbents may be required to have a current and valid motor vehicle driver’s license at a class level specific to assignment.

The position’s salary is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with the internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines.
