Title: Security Officer
Department: Security
Schedule: Full Time
The Security Officer shall protect and secure patients, employees, and visitors of St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, safeguarding buildings, properties, and premises.
Authority- Conduct investigations of all accidents, crimes, and incidents; interview, gather information, write and file reports, and consult with law enforcement agencies.
- Initiate fire safety drills, complete fire extinguisher checks, and enforce all life safety requirements.
- Invoke other departments to comply with safety directives issued by policy and the Director of Security.
- Carry out directives issued by the Director of Security.
- Patrol properties on foot and by vehicle, maintaining visible presence to ensure safety.
- Investigate and document incidents and accidents; complete reports of shift activity as per department policy.
- Monitor visitor conduct; address unauthorized persons when necessary.
- Conduct fire drills; complete documentation.
- Act as liaison between the Medical Center and law enforcement, fire department, and other outside agencies.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and provide preventive maintenance to all security systems.
- Monitor and patrol hospital parking; issue warnings, violations, and tow stickers to unauthorized vehicles.
- Assist transport of deceased to the morgue; document information and valuables.
- Respond to assistance requests; restrain patients and provide standby procedures as directed by nursing staff.
- Notify Director of Security regarding completed maintenance requisitions for repairs noted during patrol.
- Record and secure all patient valuables, belongings, and lost‑and‑found items; document release to designated agencies.
- Ensure compliance with the Medical Center identification program.
- Operate door locks and unlocks as appropriate.
- When acting as Lead Officer, oversee daily activities and notify Director of Security.
- Submit Daily Reports to the Director of Security for each shift worked.
- Pass on any incidents, accidents, losses, or fire alarms to the Security Shift Supervisor and/or Director of Security.
- Maintain confidentiality in all security‑related matters.
- Abide by all relevant Hospital policies and procedures.
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent;
Associate’s or Bachelor's in Criminal Justice or related field, preferred. - Minimum Experience: 1‑2 years in security, healthcare, and/or related field.
- Minimum Skills/abilities: Strong verbal and written communication, computer or work processing knowledge, decisive under pressure, ability to handle public in stressful situations.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Obtain and maintain training:
Basic Life Support, MOAB (Management of Aggressive Behavior), and all assignments/trainings required by Director of Security. - Pass criminal background investigation.
