Position OverviewThe Security Officer shall provide a safe and secure environment for patients, employees, and visitors at Boston Medical Center – Brighton. Responsibilities include protecting buildings, properties, and premises.
Authority- Conduct investigations of accidents, crimes, and incidents within the Security Department jurisdiction; interview, collect information, file reports, and consult law enforcement.
- Complete and enforce all life‑safety requirements, initiate fire drills, and perform fire extinguisher checks.
- Invoke compliance from other departments under directives issued by the Director of Public Safety and perform any directive as issued.
- Patrol properties on foot and by vehicle; maintain a visible presence.
- Investigate and document incidents and accidents; file reports in accordance with policy.
- Monitor visitor conduct; address unauthorized persons.
- Conduct fire drills as directed and document events.
- Act as liaison between the Center, law enforcement, fire department, and other agencies.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance of security systems.
- Monitor and patrol parking; issue warning tickets and tow notices for unauthorized vehicles per parking rules.
- Assist with transport of deceased to the morgue; document information and valuables.
- Respond to assistance requests from staff, including restraining patients and standby procedures per nursing staff directives.
- Notify Director of Public Safety of maintenance requisitions or repairs identified during patrol.
- Record, secure, inventory, and release patient valuables, belongings, and lost‑and‑found items.
- Ensure compliance with the identification program; perform door lock/unlock operations.
- When acting as Lead Officer, oversee Public Safety Department activities and report to the Director.
- Submit daily reports to the Director of Public Safety for each shift.
- Complete a "Pass-On" to the Security Shift Supervisor and/or Director of Public Safety for incidents, accidents, losses, or fire alarms during duty.
- Maintain confidentiality in all security‑related matters.
- Adhere to all relevant Hospital policies and procedures.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field, preferred.
- 1–2 years’ experience in security, healthcare, or related field.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer or processing knowledge.
- Ability to make quick, accurate decisions under pressure.
- Experience dealing with the public in stressful and sensitive situations.
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Training- Basic Life Support certification.
- AVADE De‑escalation certification.
- All job‑related training as directed by the Director of Public Safety.
Must pass a criminal background investigation.
CompensationHourly Rate: $18.50
