Job Profile Summary

This role focuses on activities related to support services functions, such as dietary and food services, environmental services, general facilities, repair and maintenance, parking, sterilization and transportation to ensure all required support activities are completed in a timely manner and meet the organization's quality standards and expectations. It also focuses on performing General Facilities, Repair & Maintenance duties including operating, monitoring and maintaining facilities mechanical components and systems such as electrical equipment, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) and plumbing.

The role may involve organizational related support or service (administrative or clerical) in a hands-on environment. The majority of time is spent in the delivery of support services or activities, typically under supervision. This is an entry-level role that typically requires little to no prior knowledge or experience, with work that is routine or follows standard procedures and is closely supervised.

Overview

This position may be assigned to any Facilities Department shop and will work independently or with tradesmen to complete operations, maintenance and general project tasks. Areas include, but are not limited to, landscape maintenance, snow removal, trash collection and disposal, furniture and equipment moving, construction labor, televisions, pneumatic tube system, lighting, electrical, HVAC and plumbing.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plans and organizes assigned work and completes required documentation daily.
  • Maintains exterior landscaping operations including planting, cultivating, watering, fertilizing, weeding, edging, mowing, trimming, sweeping, raking, digging, mulching, pruning, and related tasks.
  • Cleans up litter, debris and other refuse from grounds, rooftops, gutters, window wells, sidewalks, driveways and storm drains.
  • Operates light trucks and other vehicles, and uses various gasoline, diesel and electrically powered tools and equipment used in facility maintenance and construction work.
  • Performs snow removal, sanding and chemical snow and ice melting operations using hand and powered tools, equipment and vehicles.
  • Performs construction demolition work using various hand and power tools and cleans up construction sites of waste and debris.
  • Transports, loads, lifts and places large, bulky and/or heavy furniture, fixtures, equipment, boxes and crates using manual lifting, moving equipment and light rigging as necessary.
  • Performs light assembly of items such as furniture, fixtures and shelves and installs in designated locations.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and light repairs in assigned areas such as carpentry, painting, electrical, HVAC and plumbing, including removing, installing, lubrication, cleaning, washing, polishing, and minor adjustments.
  • Attends staff and training meetings as required and participates in Fire and Disaster Programs as directed.
  • Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Maintains the appropriate operating licenses and certificates to operate motor vehicles and equipment as required by state and local regulations.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • One (1) year of experience in maintenance or construction.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Vocational or trade school training.
    • One (1) year of experience in maintenance or construction.
    Physical Requirements
  • Work throughout the hospital including exterior campus, patient rooms, treatment areas, common areas, labs, hazardous material storage areas, and rooftops where safety of patients and visitors must be considered.
  • May work in equipment rooms and in restricted spaces, exposed to extreme cold or high heat conditions, dust, dirt, synthetic oils, cleaning materials and aerosols, fiberglass and asbestos-containing materials.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments.
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
