Electrician, HVAC Technician - Senior Maintenance Technician II-Suffolk

Position Summary

Installs, repairs, alters, maintains and tests existing heating, venting, air conditioning (HVAC) equipment or electrical systems. Maintains mechanical equipment and building infrastructure to ensure safety and uninterrupted facility operations. Uses the central building insight system to track facility needs and ensure safe operations.

FOR ELECTRICIAN

• Tests, repairs, installs, and maintains electrical systems and equipment using appropriate tools and equipment.
• Troubleshoots electrical issues by reading schematics, diagrams, and outlines to identify and correct problems.
• Provides preventative maintenance to equipment, machinery, and tools.
• Maintains an adequate inventory of equipment and materials.
• Schedules and escorts contractors.
• Cooperates with facilities system personnel on electrical systems and power consumption.
• Performs other duties as required.

FOR HVAC

• Installs, repairs, alters, and maintains HVAC equipment and systems.
• Troubleshoots HVAC equipment and systems.
• Runs standard tests to confirm finished work meets specifications.
• Inspects facilities to determine maintenance and repair needs for HVAC equipment.
• Establishes priorities and makes recommendations concerning work activities.
• Maintains courthouse building and grounds.
• Provides preventative maintenance to equipment, machinery, and tools.
• Repairs, installs, and tests multiple HVAC systems.
• Orders motors, parts, and equipment.
• Schedules and escorts contractors.
• Works with engineering on efficiency and power consumption.
• Performs other duties as required.

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.
• Four (4) years of related work experience, which may include apprenticeship working toward a state license.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience considered.
• For electrician: current and valid Massachusetts journeyman electrician’s license issued by the Board of State Examiners of Electricians.
• For HVAC: current and valid Massachusetts refrigeration license and EPA 608/CFC certification.

Knowledge

• State and local electrical codes.
• Inspection techniques used in electrical or HVAC trades.
• Safety practices and precautions, including OSHA, bio‑hazard cleanup, and electrical safeguarding protocols.
• Building structures and access equipment.
• Maintenance software and purchasing procedures.
• For HVAC: laws, rules, and regulations governing HVAC systems; state building codes; blueprints and plans; estimating costs for renovations and HVAC maintenance/repair.
