Position Description
Immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Senior Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in South Boston, Massachusetts.
Compensation & Benefits- Hourly Pay: $41.66 per hour
- Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE certification obtained, up to $700
- Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter (four times per year)
- Schedule:
Monday–Friday, weekends OFF - Hours:
Second Shift 2:00 pm – 10:30 pm

Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Vocational or technical certification, post‑secondary degree or technical certifications preferred
- Basic tools required
- Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including:
- Routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
- Diagnostics and repairs (AC, electrical systems)
- Advanced skilled level repairs, including some major engine repairs, diesel after treatment or automotive fuel injection repairs (required)
- Four (4) years or more relevant work experience (preferred)
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A preferred
- All other certifications required by location (required)
- Ability to perform all T3 tasks
- Advanced analytical and repair skills in vehicle maintenance
- Effective interpersonal communication skills
- Basic computer skills (PC, Windows, mouse, etc.)
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Availability for shift work, weekends, and on‑call duty as required
- Prefer ASE certification in PM, Brakes, A/C, electrical, electronics, or ASE Master Mechanic
- Proficiency in operating shop computers and diagnostic test equipment
- Minimum tool requirement must be met
- Road test vehicles as necessary
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and influence others
- Must obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
- Pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and Ryder background and motor vehicle check (including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years)
- SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT
220) - Complete all OEM online diagnostic scan tool software courses as required by location fleet mix (within 365 days)
- Complete instructor‑led OEM courses as required to support location fleet mix
- Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including standard and preventive maintenance, complex repairs with minimal support
- Access and use internal and external maintenance documents
- Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electronic problems, utilizing diagnostic computers/software when applicable
- Perform remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine best solution for roadside breakdowns
- Perform facility maintenance duties
- Interact with customers/drivers to determine the nature of the complaint once a task is assigned
- Instruct and advise other technicians regarding maintenance repair procedures and diagnostics
- Coach/mentor other level technicians
- Advise shop management and other technicians on shop repairs
- Utilize key functions of shop management system and electronic documentation available
- Work in accordance with all federal, provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT)
- Other support duties as required to support operations, such as Service Island support
