Position Description
Immediately hiring a Permanent Full‑Time Senior Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in South Boston, Massachusetts.
Compensation & Benefits- Hourly Pay: $41.66 per hour
- Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE Certification obtained (up to $700)
- Quarterly Bonus:
Up to $500 every quarter (four times per year) - Schedule:
Monday–Friday, weekends off - Hours:
Second Shift 2:00 pm – 10:30 pm - Annual Merit Pay Increases

Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
- Vocational or Technical Certification, Post‑Secondary degree or Technical Certifications (preferred)
- Basic tools required
- Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work), diagnostics and repairs (AC, electrical systems), and advanced skilled level repairs (major engine repairs, diesel after treatment, automotive fuel injection repairs)
- Four (4) years or more relevant work experience (preferred)
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
- All other certification as required by location (required)
- Ability to perform all T3 tasks
- Demonstrated advanced analytical and repair skills in vehicle maintenance
- Effective interpersonal communication skills
- Basic computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Availability to work shift work/weekends and on‑call duty as required
- Prefer ASE Certification in PM, Brakes, A/C, electrical, Electronics or ASE Master Mechanic
- Required to operate shop computers and diagnostic test equipment proficiently
- Must have minimum tool requirement
- Must road test vehicles as necessary
- Demonstrated ability to coach/mentor/influence others
- This position requires driving Ryder vehicles. To become a Ryder employee you must: obtain CDL within 6 months after hire, pass a Ryder drug test, pass a DOT physical, pass a Ryder road test, pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check (including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years)
Some positions require additional screening that may include employment and education verification, motor vehicle records check, a road test, and/or badging or background requirements of the customer to which you are assigned.
Responsibilities- SBTIII trained within 180 days (SBT
220) - Complete all OEM on‑line diagnostic scan tool software courses as required by location fleet mix (completed within 365 days)
- Complete instructor‑led OEM courses as required to support location fleet mix
- Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard and preventive maintenance, complex repairs with minimal support, diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical and electronic problems, remote triage to determine best solution to assist roadside breakdowns, facility maintenance duties, interacting with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint, instructing other technicians, coaching/mentoring other level technicians, advising shop management and other technicians on shop repairs, utilizing key functions of a Shop Management System and electronic documentation, working in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines, and other support duties as required
