Trades Worker

Overview

Incumbents of positions in this series perform varied tasks to assist trades workers in the performance of their duties in a variety of trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and more. They perform routine trade related maintenance and repair, maintain machinery, equipment and tools, install glass, floor covering, and related work as required.

• Assist in servicing and replacing minor plumbing fixtures such as faucets, washers, flushometers, valves, etc.
• Perform routine repairs to electrically‑powered equipment and appliances such as motors, pumps, lamps, fans, including replacing light bulbs and fuses.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs to heating, ventilating, refrigerating, and air conditioning equipment, including belt replacement, filter changes, bearing and cooling coil replacement, and adjustment of controls.
• Maintain machinery, equipment and tools by cleaning, lubricating, greasing, and oiling to ensure optimal working order.
• Assist in the construction of tables, wooden barricades, window screens, and other minor carpentry work using hand and power tools.
• Install glass in windows and doors by inserting and fastening precut glass in window sash.
• Assist in installing and making routine repairs to floor coverings such as tiles, linoleum, and rugs.
• Assist in erecting and dismantling scaffolding and rigging to gain access to high places.
• Perform related duties such as furnishing tools and materials to tradesmen, holding materials or tools, cleaning work area upon completion, operating soldering and brazing equipment, erecting and dismantling wall partitions, requisitioning supplies, and maintaining records.

One year of experience in related work within the 10‑year period immediately prior to filing this application is required.
