Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented individual to join our team as a Marine Technician. In this role you will diagnose, repair, and maintain various boats and marine engines, ensuring customers receive top‑tier service.
Essential Functions- Perform installs, repairs and maintenance on boats, including outboard, sterndrive, and inboard engines, as well as other vessel components.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using technical expertise.
- Collaborate with supervisors and service administration to address installation or repair challenges, establish workflows, and estimate time frames.
- Review repair orders and vessel specifications to determine the scope of work and recommend necessary repairs or modifications.
- Conduct safety inspections and utilize service histories to inform customers of required or recommended maintenance.
- Perform refurbishment work on boats.
- Track time and labor for each repair order, ensuring adherence to efficiency goals and minimizing non‑billable tasks.
- Ensure boats are tidied after service work, including wiping handprints and other marks before returning them to the customer.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, adhering to safety protocols at all times.
- Occasionally step in to support other roles, including moving boats in the absence of a Yard Worker and assisting with service administration or parts‑related tasks when necessary.
- Participate in company‑required training sessions, meetings, and communications via email and Microsoft Teams.
- Assist with occasional onsite and offsite promotional events and boat shows, including setup and breakdown as needed.
- Perform any additional duties needed for success.
- Performs work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Operates boats, motorized vehicles, small handheld power tools, and other equipment.
- Moves up to 50 pounds and performs tasks requiring physical exertion.
- Adjusts to various physical positions as needed to perform repair tasks.
- Works safely near water and on docks.
- Ascends/descends ladders to board/ depart vessels.
Requires travel within the Northeast region to service vessels at Freedom Boat Club locations.
CompensationHourly pay ranges from $22.00 to $30.00, with actual rates based on experience, skills, and location.
Required Qualifications- Minimum age 21 years.
- Certified in Yamaha or Mercury is a plus.
- Knowledge of 12‑V electrical, rigging, and outboard diagnostics.
- Fiberglass repair a plus.
- Boating experience in and around boats is preferred.
- Ability to work safely in a shop environment and maintain a clean work environment.
- Knowledge of safe boat and trailer maneuvering.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Pass a background and drug screening.
- Team player.
- Self‑starter, capable of working unsupervised.
- Calm, positive attitude during high activity periods.
- Attention to detail.
